Clooney/Quin moved to the top of Group 3 with an emphatic 4-17 to 0-13 victory over Feakle at Dr Daly Park, Tulla.
After Feakle opened the scoring, Clooney/Quin quickly took control and built a 0-7 to 0-3 advantage before turning the screw with four goals in a devastating 12-minute spell before half-time. Each came from the stick of a different attacker - Darragh McNamara with the first latching on to a genius overhead flick from Jerry O'Connor. Dannan Fox slipped through the Feakle defence for the second. More telepathy from O' Connor, this time with Duggan as the slick provider, grabbed the third while the towering Clare forward stole inside the Feakle full back line and rifled home himself for the fourth goal just before the break.
The reigning beaten county finalists maintained their dominance after the break, with Peter Duggan and Jerry O’Connor among those to make important contributions as they secured their first championship win of the campaign.
The 16-point victory puts Clooney/Quin in pole position at the summit of Group 3. They now face O’Callaghans Mills in the final round, while Feakle will face Cratloe to decide each others fate at the same time.
