It was a case of bittersweet victory for Newmarket-on-Fergus, who arguably produced their finest display of this TUS SHC campaign to edge neighbours and fierce rivals Wolfe Tones by two points in a sun-drenched and packed Glenomra Park in Broadford. Led by a magnificent haul of 1-07 from Peter Power—whose second-half goal cancelled out an earlier flicked goal from Aaron Shanagher —and bolstered by fine scoring returns from Seán Arthur (0-06) and Mikey Power (0-05), the Blues looked in command heading for the final ten minutes seven points in the clear. However, despite being reduced to 14 men following Shanagher's red card, Wolfe Tones mounted a late, heroic fightback inspired by Aaron Cunningham (with 1-02) to cut the deficit to just two. That late surge proved vital; with Wolfe Tones, Sixmilebridge, and Newmarket all ending the group phase locked on zero score difference in a three-way tie, the Shannon side edged qualification on the "points for" tiebreaker to set up a quarter-final with champions Éire Óg, while Newmarket were left stranded in the relegation battle.
