Clare have named their lineup for Sunday’s Munster Senior Hurling Championship opening round clash with Waterford at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg.

Headline news is the return of Tony Kelly, who missed the Allianz League Final victory over Dublin but is now fit to resume his place as captain in the starting fifteen. The Ballyea man’s presence at centre field will be a major boost as Clare look to hit the ground running in their provincial campaign.

There is further good news in attack as Scariff’s Mark Rodgers, who was forced off early in that same League decider, has shaken off injury concerns and is named to start at full forward. In defence, Adam Hogan of Feakle also returns to the fold, slotting back in at corner back.

On the flip side Clare will be without 2024 Hurler of the Year Shane O’Donnell from their starting team. O’Donnell, who accounted for 1-01 in a bright opening half vs Dublin did not finish the League Final but the Éire Óg man is named among Sunday’s substitutes as he continues to work his way back to full sharpness.

One player who hasn’t recovered in time for the Banner’s Championship opener is David McInerney.  The Tulla defender’s absence hands an opportunity to the impressive Niall O’Farrell of Broadford who is rewarded for an excellent league campaign and starts at centre half back.

Alongside him, Sean Rynne of Inagh‑Kilnamona starts at right half forward, adding more young blood alongside the seasoned experience named throughout Brian Lohan’s team.

Sunday’s opening round clash promises to be a belter and throws in at 2pm.
