Following yesterday’s Munster semi-final defeat to Kerry, Clare now turn their attention to the 2026 Tailteann Cup. Paul Madden and his side were understandably downbeat in the immediate aftermath — this is not a group chasing moral victories — but there was enough in that spirited home display at Zimmer Biomet Páirc Chíosóg to suggest there’s still plenty to aim for this season. Once the dust settles, the Banner will be targeting momentum in what is new territory for them, entering the Tailteann Cup for the first time.
It won’t be straightforward. The competition is packed with counties carrying similar ambitions, all eyeing a path to Croke Park silverware and a prolonged summer.
The draw for Round 1 of the 2026 Tailteann Cup takes place tomorrow, Monday, April 27th, and will be broadcast live as part of The View, which gets underway at 1pm on GAA+. Supporters can also watch the draw free of charge via the GAA+ YouTube channel and across the GAA’s social media platforms.
The teams involved in the draw are: Waterford, Wicklow, Sligo, Leitrim, London, Limerick, Laois, Fermanagh, Tipperary, Longford, Offaly, Clare, Antrim, Carlow, Wexford and one further side yet to be confirmed.
That final spot will be filled by either Westmeath, Down or Cavan, depending on upcoming provincial results.
The draw will be open, with eight Round 1 ties to be confirmed. The first team drawn in each pairing will have home advantage.
Most of the Round 1 fixtures are scheduled for the weekend of May 9th/10th, although any counties exiting their provincial championships on the weekend of May 2nd/3rd will see their Tailteann Cup ties pushed back by a week.
